Summer is almost here, and with it come hikes, trips, beaches, picnic, mini-gold, lobsters, ice creams, hammocks and everything in between. Everything sounds nice right? Yep, except for mosquitos, sunburns, annnddddd the biggie, dehydration. Dehydration is becoming a bigger and bigger problem every year as global warming keeps creeping up on us. So, how big of a problem is dehydration? Let's visualize it:

Wow! And that’s not just in the summer, that's a year-round average. So it would only be logical to except those numbers to increase in those hot months. And we get it, you’re all prepared for dehydration with your handfuls of salt ready to be plunged into your water, so no worries there. But before you do that, you may want to read on a bit so we can briefly explain the concept of hydration to those of you who may be confused (we’ll cut you a deal, if you can name all 5 electrolytes and you have all of ‘em everyday we’ll let you off the hook)

HYDRATION WHO?

What is hydration? A quick google-search will tell you that it is the process of something absorbing water or moisture. Makes sense when its prefix Hydr comes from the Greek word for water. Shocked right? But unfortunately things aren't so simple

We’ll start off with electrolytes: What are they? How do they come into the picture? Simply put, electrolytes are minerals that, when dissolved in water, gain a charge and become ions. They help your body do just about everything it needs, helping conduct electrical signals throughout you whole body.

Why do you need electrolytes for hydration? That would be the next logical question. There exists a phenomenon called Osmosis, which is essentially nature keeping things balanced- in this case electrolyte concentrations. This is also the reason why you can’t drink distilled water. Because there are more electrolytes inside the cell than outside, the cell will absorb as much water as it can to try to balance itself with its environment, even if it means death for the cell.

By contrast, when you have too many electrolytes (we are talking many times over RDI), it causes our cells to dehydrate themselves in order to balance both spaces. This is condition, called liquid retention, means there is more water in between cells than in the cells themselves.

So which electrolytes do we need? For those of you who could answer this before, it’s your time to blurt your answers out loud (sensibly, not if you’re in a library). The 5 pillars of hydration we’ll call them: these are the 5 electrolytes most relevant for hydration are sodium, chloride, magnesium, potassium and calcium. Let’s pay some special attention to the magnesium pillar, seen as it’s in rough shape, and for good reason. Some say magnesium is the “forgotten” electrolyte, which judging by the high prevalence of its deficiency in the American population, we’d have to agree.

Here at OmniBlue HQ we kept thinking… why do all the leading sports ‘electrolyte’ brands only include sodium, chloride and if maybe if your lucky and got a company who cares slightly more about your health, you also got some potassium or magnesium in there? The root of this, and many, many other scandals is money. Salt is cheap and the rest aren’t. And kudos to them, because they managed to deceive the public into thinking that salt and water means hydration.

Folks, you dont need more sodium! You need more electrolytes, which includes the other 3 your forgetting about. If you are only giving your body sodium and chloride, where is your body going to get the rest? Well it needs an electrolyte loan from the bank of bodily reserves of course (aka your bones).

WE DECIDED TO SOLVE THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL:

We’ll save you the google searches and tell you that there isn'tanything out there that has all 5 electrolytes… right? Thats where you’re probably wrong (respectfully). OmniBlue’s team of big-hearted, dedicated and passionate researchers aimed at solving this problem that deeply affects people's health. This is quite the twist when looking at your typical electrolyte company, who looks at their customers as dollar signs rather than people with an actual health need. We have been working around the clock to develop the worlds first complete electrolyte replenishment. And the best part is that, like all of our products, it is 100% natural and ocean derived. Nature really does know best.

May we present to you OceanHyrate Sports! Our brand new electrolyte power mix that caters to us folks who lead a particularly active lifestyle, live in hot areas or, most importantly, for those who need an extra nutritional boost to make sure that you are keeping yourself with the 8% of us who adequately meet our bodies needs.

Just ONE serving of our groundbreaking electrolyte mix will provide you with the following electrolytes (not counting our signature 70+ total trace minerals):

Sodium 440 mg (19% RDI): Necessary to to fully replenish the minerals lost while sweating. In order to be safe while exercising in the hot summer months you are going to need a boost to this critical electrolyte. However, this doesn't mean we advocate for adding 1000mg of sodium in a single serving as most sports hydration brands would have you believe is optimal.

Chloride 1500mg (65%): Chloride is the negative counterpart to sodium, supporting our fluid electrolyte balance as well as being crucial to many muscular functions, nerve signaling, etc.

Magnesium 194mg (44%): This is where you can start to see that OceanHydrate is a whole other animal, it's not even apples to oranges. By containing this amount of magnesium we are most Americans “weak link” when it comes to hydration, and helping support the 400+ enzymatic reactions it participates in that help keep us alive and well.

Potassium 375mg (8%): It is crucial to regulate fluid balance, nerve signals, and muscle contractions, and is essential for maintaining normal heart and muscle function. With potassium we complete the array of electrolytes that you need, so like Thanos said when acquiring the last infinity stone (fun fact, they actually represent electrolytes): “Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.”

By now you should be checking whatever sports hydration you take (we hope its not Gatorade), and asking yourself,  is this complete?Chances are it’s not.

So, we’re kickin’ off a good ol’ fashioned hunt.

Our bets are all in, and we say there isn’t a product out there that can top OceanHydrate Sports. Think you’ve got a worthy contender? Saddle up and shoot us an email with the details. We’re offerin’ a handsome reward for such a find (jokes aside, we are very eager to hear the community's thoughts once it launches).

WE KNOW, WE KNOW…

You are probably thinking, where the heck is the calcium?! Although we absolutely recognize that it is also crucial to hydration, most Americans surprisingly enough have enough of it, and we needed to stay true to our marine origins. Unfortunately, there is no viable source of calcium in the ocean short of milking whales which is probably a no go both for you and for us. The good news is that, unlike Perry the Platypus, humans don't sweat calcium! So no need to worry, OceanHydrate has your bases covered, allowing you to train like never before: harder, faster, stronger and longer!

WHEN CAN YOU GET SOME?
